Landing Tray Square
CNC machined solid wood tray
2025
It was a summer afternoon. I was sitting outside when two staff from a nearby restaurant came out to lay a tablecloth on the table beside me.
The cloth opened wide and they held it there, arms raised, pausing. The centre had taken the shape of the tabletop beneath, pressed through the fabric, while the four corners hung in the air. I couldn't tell what they were waiting for. Checking the angle, perhaps? Or smoothing a crease that I couldn't see.
Because I didn't know their purpose, the stillness felt uncertain: the cloth could settle at any moment, or just as easily be pulled away again.
This is a raised square tray that captures that moment. The tray body lands gently above a solid base, the centre geometry reflecting the silhouette of the base below.
